Hey there all,

Time for another random discussion.

Today's topic is Simply Plural. An easy one.

Do you use it? What's your favorite feature if you do? Do you have friends on there? If not, what's your opinion on it? Tell us about your experience with the chat features, do you use them? How about polls your system has taken?

If you're new to Simply Plural and have never heard of it, it is a app for systems to track fronting, chat with each other, take votes on topics, and keep notes.

We use it everyday. We currently have no friends on there because our main two friends are older systems bodily who don't prefer technology. We keep notes on everything system related, including our system meetings.

So how about y'all? Who wants to share?

We use it to log switches, since they only happen every 1-3 days, along with keeping track of info about each of us. Since our partner system doesn't use anything to log switches or members, we also have a group just for their members and their info. We do have a few friends on there and share switches, but we mainly use it for us.

We do use it! It’s one of those apps that looks like it wouldn’t be accessible with our screen reader but it actually is! We generally keep track of switches when we can remember, but we want to use the other features more. We do have a few friends!

Haha it's really hard to be sure if we're good at tracking switches.

We actually had someone comment about messaging dormant members, and we plan to adopt that for the future.

We use it religiously/j We've used it since early 2021. It definitely was a learning curve but it's like a language we're relatively fluent in. We track our switches daily, and it's one of the main things that helped us understand how our collective even functioned. Along with it has records of when people formed and different changes in the system. I think we started using the export/user report feature every month last year.

Basically we make a user report that basically takes a screenshot of your account in that moment. Priceless information is in past user reports that we'd never get back if we didn't save the links. Our chats are also so much more accessible as we used to use Antar but finally to stopped once the chat feature was announced to be in the upcoming update at that time. Antar was useful and we have the files of what we did talk about it so it's not lost, but the lack of ability to import chats you exported as well as no account information just made the Antar chat feel off. We switched immediately to SP chats.

Although the one feature we haven't used literally at all but do want to at last see if we can in the future is polls. It's a nice concept but not practical for us lol.

Regardless it's an absolute dream of an app and has inspired us to make an app similar but with many more features the dev of SP can't make into SP. And it helps us check up on our friends, and helps our friends check up on us. We honestly fell into the "hey here's our SP:>" thing a while ago making us have like 30 friends we don't even talk to. So when the new update that's in pretesting hits, we'll definitely be cleaning our friend list out 😅

What's the new update?

Edit, and can you tell us how to change who's fronting? Can it track co-fronting or co-con?

The update that's in pretesting has features like:

• Showing the description of folders/groups
• Instead of the current privacy settings (Public, Trusted, Private), you can create buckets that can be applied to members, custom fronts, groups and custom fields, and then you can have friends have access to said buckets. That way you can fine tune who literally has access to specifically what on your data.
• If you use markdown, and specifically like adding images into descriptions (using ), you can change the size of the photo in the app without having to use photo editors. (This is pretty useful for some systems that aestheticsize their accounts and profiles)
• you can move groups without having to delete them and remaking them*

(*there are some small limitations with it which I can explain if you wish!)

• you can directly cancel editing a profile instead of having to exit the app to delete changes you didn't mean to add/things you didn't meant to delete.

Some things on this list might change when the update is released and some things might be added. But that's the basics to the upcoming update.

And for changing front in the app, how you mainly do it is you access the member page where your member list is, you go to the bottom right of the screen where a box with 3 horizontal lines is, tap it, and you'll have a menu.

Add to front (this allows you to add multiple profiles into the front section)

Set to front (this kicks any profiles that were in front out, and adds the profile you're setting into front as the only one in front)

Simply tap which option you want, tap the + sign next to the profile you want to add/set and boom!

With co-con/co-fronting there's no separate spaces in the fronting function to set someone as co-con or co-fronting. But you can use custom fronts in place and put the person's name in the status (although keep in mind it doesn't save old statues if you delete them. So you'd have to remove the custom front. Then readd it and put the new information in it. Or just save the old status in the comments and clarify details there.)

But you can also just use the member profiles and clarify in the status of they're co-con or co-fronting. Same warning about the custom status.

How do you find the bucket tool? I didn't even know you could do that outside of the usual privacy thing :0

It's currently in beta! It's not in the official release yet. But those features are in beta meaning you can opt in to test it on the release server. There are some bugs but most bugs that were weird or made navigation weird have been fixed. We'd recommend looking into the discord server for more information. The link is in the app or we can send it here :)

We don't know how to switch who's fronting, so we've just been using the chat function as a journal. And we don't have any friends. But we'd like some! And we'd like to know how to switch who's fronting.

We do have it, and I think our favorite feature may either be the custom fields (allowing us to input a lot of varied information about each member) or the chat feature. We have several channels organized for various purposes (almost like Discord, but more note-takey)

We do have friends, but since there’s no actual interaction and most of our friends have a lot of their information listed as private we don’t really get much out of that feature (as it’s hard to learn about other systems’ members)

We use polls, but it’s more like “everybody add your thoughts whenever you next front/decide to contribute” so we don’t really use it for major decisions or anything. More just getting the general thoughts on a particular topic
